Bhubaneswar : District Collectors have been authorised to take whatever steps that are required to be taken to minimise loss to life and property in the event of rains and thereafter under the impact of the low pressure likely to be formed over North Bay of Bengal tomorrow, informed Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradip Jena.

Responding to query at a presser here after taking stock of the flood-like situation in Malkangiri, Jena said that the administration in all districts are fully prepared to tackle if any such situation arises.

The SRC revealed that they are yet to get the details about the expected low pressure area over Bay of Bengal from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) while adding that as per information received so far moderate to heavy rains are likely to occur in north Odisha.

“We are yet to get the details. Low pressure is likely to form by August 19. That doesn’t mean that it will start raining from 19th.

After formation of the low-pressure area, IMD will inform us about its shape and size through three of its bulletins which will be informed to the Collectors,” Jena clarified.

Collectors have been asked to remain on alert during the video conferencing yesterday, he added.
