Following the tweet of Russia appreciating the stand of India at the UNSC, the Ukrainian President called on Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi after a telephonic conversation with him to stop the aggressor. This happened after the official account of Russian Embassy in India tweeted appreciating India. The account said, “Highly appreciate India’s independent and balanced position at the voting in the UNSC on February 25, 2022. In the spirit of the special and privileged strategic partnership Russia is committed to maintain close dialogue with India on the situation around Ukraine.”

Shortly after this, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy tweeted that he spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and urged India to give political support in the United Nations Security Council. His tweet said, “Spoke with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Informed of the course of Ukraine repulsing Russian aggression. More than 100,000 invaders are on our land. They insidiously fire on residential buildings. Urged India to give us political support United Nations Security Council. Stop the aggressor together!

India abstained from voting on the resolution and later issued an ‘Explanation of Vote’ (EoV) after the vote in which it called for “return to the path of diplomacy” and sought immediate cessation of “violence and hostilities”.
