Bhubaneswar is finally catching a break from the scorching heat that’s been making life unbearable across the state. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts a welcome relief in the form of lower daytime temperatures by 4 to 6 degrees Celsius over the next few days. This respite is thanks to expected rainfall and thundershowers, with Tuesday and Wednesday likely seeing the most significant impact from these weather patterns. However, along with the rain, strong gusty winds are expected, prompting a cautionary note from the regional Met office advising fishermen to steer clear of the sea between May 6 and 8.

The Met office specifically highlights the potential danger of surface winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 km/h along the northern coast of Odisha during this period, emphasizing the need for caution among fishermen. Sunday saw Odisha baking in the heat, with a staggering 26 places recording temperatures of 40 degrees Celsius or higher. Among them, 12 places endured the scorching heat of 43 degrees Celsius or more.

In essence, relief is on the horizon for Bhubaneswar and the surrounding areas as the oppressive heatwave begins to ease its grip. The promise of cooler temperatures coupled with the prospect of much-needed rainfall brings hope for some respite from the sweltering conditions. Yet, amidst this welcome change, it’s essential for fishermen to remain vigilant and heed the advice to stay ashore during the specified period of heightened winds along the coast.
