The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that the southwest monsoon will reach Kerala within the next 24 hours, highlighting favourable conditions across the state and some northeastern regions. The IMD stated, “Conditions continue to become favourable for Monsoon onset over Kerala during the next 24 hours and advance of monsoon over some parts of Northeastern States during the same period.”As of Wednesday, Kerala’s state capital, Thiruvananthapuram, experienced significant waterlogging and persistent rainfall, disrupting daily life. The continuous downpour caused severe inundation, affecting residents trying to access the railway station and bus stands situated in the city center. The IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert for five districts in Kerala, anticipating heavy to very heavy rainfall. The normal onset date for the monsoon in Kerala is June 1, and this year’s forecast aligns closely with that timeline.
