Remembering Birsa Munda, A Tribal Visionary!

Birsa Munda was an indigenous leader who died at the young age of 25 in a jail in Ranchi on June 9, 1900. He is known to have fought for the tribal against Indian landlords exploitation.

Munda was born in a village in the areas of Jharkhand and Bihar in 1875 and belonged to the Munda community. He protested against British converting and developed his own faith and called it ‘Birsait.’

Birsa was arrested on March 3, 1900 while sleeping with his tribal army in the Jamkoipai forest of Chakradharpur.
