Relief in Bhubaneswar as Heavy Rains Offer Respite from Rising Temperatures

Parts of Bhubaneswar experienced significant rainfall on Tuesday, providing much-needed relief from the escalating temperatures. According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), hot and humid conditions are expected to persist in certain Odisha districts until June 19, with possible thunderstorms also forecasted. The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall in a few areas on June 20 and 21.The southwest monsoon is anticipated to advance further into parts of the state within the next four days, as per IMD reports. Although the monsoon commenced over the state on June 8, its progress has been sluggish. This delay has led to heatwave conditions in interior districts and humid weather along the coast. Currently, the monsoon is active in the Malkangiri and Koraput districts.To date, Odisha has received 36.6 mm of rainfall, significantly below the expected 91.4 mm, resulting in a 42 percent deficit. Until June 19, hot and humid weather is likely to affect areas including Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
