New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has thanked PM Modi and Environment  Minister Prakash Javadekar for recommending the Golden Beach in Puri.

The Puri beach along with seven other beaches in India has been recommended to the International Jury for the coveted global eco-label Blue Flag certification under the BEAMS program to Denmark government.

Puri has been recommended among the eight beaches of the country for such certification.

Pradhan tweeted that the Society of Integrated Coastal Management (SICOM) is implementing the National Coastal Management Programme of the Ministry of Environment and Forests under Beach Environment & Aesthetic Management System (BEAMS) for the sustainable development of coastal regions in the country.

It promotes environmental protection and conservation of natural resources in coordination with the UN’s sustainable development goals.

Development of world-class facilities and compliance of Blue Flag criteria at the Golden beach in Puri and other beaches in the country will further develop new tourism hotspots and will boost sustainable beach tourism in Odisha and other coastal states.

Under the initiative, SICOM has invested over Rs 8.5 crore over the past 2.5 years in developing environment-friendly tourist amenities at the Golden beach in Puri.

The Puri beach has amenities like bathing zones, modern washrooms, drinking water, parking, and watchtower facilities. CC TVs have been installed and security guards are providing a close watch on the region.
