Bhubaneswar : With uncertainty looming large over the resumption of classes in schools due to the spread of COVID19 in the state, the Odisha School and Mass Education Department has decided to reduce the syllabus for the 2020-21 academic session.

Speaking to media, the School and Mass Education Minister, Sameer Ranjan Dash said, “The department has taken Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s approval to rationalise the syllabus.”

“While the board and State Council of Educational Research & Training (SCERT) expert committee will decide how much syllabus will be reduced from class I to X, the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) will finalise the class XI and XII syllabus,” the minister informed.

On being asked about the extent of rationalisation, the minister said, “At this point of time, we cannot confirm how much syllabus will be reduced because we are yet to decide on reopening of schools.”

Notably, all schools across Odisha have been closed till August 31 in view of the COVID19 pandemic.
