Beirut/ Bhubaneswar : In the aftermath of the recent blasts in Lebanon’s Beirut city, the Odisha Government has asked all the factories in the State to furnish details regarding the list and quantity of flammable and explosive materials being used, handled and stored in their manufacturing units.

In a letter to the occupiers of all factories in Odisha, the Directorate of Factories and Boilers has instructed them to take all possible safety measures to prevent any untoward incident in the future.

The factories have also been asked to furnish a report on preparedness to deal with any such emergency.

Alarmed by the huge explosions in Beirut, the Customs Department in Chennai last Sunday transported 10 containers loaded with over 700 ton of ammonium nitrate from the city to a buyer in Hyderabad.

On August 4, around 2700 tonnes of ammonium nitrate kept in storages in Lebanon’s capital Beirut exploded, killing more than 200 people. While over 6000 were injured, the explosion caused widespread destruction.
