The Odisha Cricket Association has released a statement criticising the statements made by athlete Dutee Chand criticising the state government.
The sprinter in a Facebook post blamed the state government for giving all importance to Hockey India and leaving out all other forms of sports in the state.
These comments were criticised by netizens and also by former olympian and hockey player Dilip Tirkey. In the recent most update, The Odisha Cricket Association has also condemned the same. The statement read,
“It has been noticed that a social media posting of Olympian Ms Dutee Chand (Athlete) has been widely
circulating round the corner in various platforms where derogatory words has been used against our
State Govt. This is highly ridiculous that the same athlete whom the state govt has supported in various
ways & means has commented on social media which is belittling.”
It then said, “Further, I would like to make it clear that the Sports & Y S Department of Govt Odisha has been
promoting all the sports and games in our state very actively including Hockey, Football, Wrestling,
Badminton. Athletics, Basketball etc. We are sure that in future the noble endeavour of the Sports & Y
S Department will certainly yield rich dividend
Our state has got global recognition as one of the most vibrant states in terms of promoting sports and
games.
I strongly condemn the social media comments & its highly deplorable the kind of words used in it.”
