Odia Girl In The Race to Become First Indian Member of A K-Pop Group

Odia girl Sriya Lenka, 18, is in the race  to become the first ever Indian to be a part of a K-Pop group. Lenka along with Brazilian girl Gabriella Dalcin are competing to become the fifth member of the K-Pop group, Black Swan. Black Swan is a globally acclaimed K Pop girl group from South Korea.  She is currently a trainee artist with the Korean music label DR Entertainment. 

As per DR Music Entertainment’s official statement, “The girls have been in South Korea since December 2021 and are currently undergoing basic practice schedules and Korean language education which forms the final round of the audition process wherein they have to prove they are eligible to debut as a Kpop artist. Evaluations shall be based on their skills, personality, and qualities to become a Kpop artist and the courses determined by the label for the trainees will be documented and shown on the music label’s official Youtube channel.”

The global audition for the fifth member of the K Pop girl group was held last year and saw more than 4000 participants. Sriya Lenka was the only Indian amongst 23 girls from across the globe to be selected for the second round of auditions. 

The third and the final round is being held in South Korea between the Indian and the Brazilian Trainee.
