No change in Power Tariffs by May 20

Bhubaneswar: After resuming of hand held billing in the month of may CESU has received number of griverances from the consumers in which they have asked whether their electricity bills are hiked.
For the bill in may, consumers have to pay for their March & April usages. Due to the pandemic officials couldn’t take the meter readings in the month of April and bills were made on provisional basis based on last recorded consumption. However many consumers are staying at home due to luckdown, which resulting high consumption of electricity. Work from home and arrival of summer also added to the domestic usages.

CESU has analysed all the griverances received so far regarding may 20 billing. And on analysis and recalculation all the bills found to be correct.

Due to the pandemic , declaration of social distancing measures and to prevent spread of the virus neither consumers pay their bill nor CESU could collect it’s revenue which has been a big reason behind consumers bill inflated. On account of this, CESU couldn’t collect around Ra. 300 crore from march-april 20,resulting in the increase of the arrear value of the consumers. And this arrear has been added to the may 20 bill which in turn has increased the billing value of consumers in this month.

CESU now encouraging it’s consumers to pay their bill by offering 4% rebate for any consumers who made payment in the month of april-may 20. The CESU also said that whenever consumers lacked in paying their bills in a month, the billing value automatically increases accordingly.

If consumers still have any complains, it is requested to bring those specific issues about may 20 boiling to the notice of CESU which will be handled on priority basis.
