Bhubaneswar Declares Half-Day Holiday for Swearing-In Ceremony

Mohan Majhi has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Odisha, marking the first time the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will govern the state independently. This comes after the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) faced a significant defeat in the State Assembly elections, ending Naveen Patnaik’s 24-year tenure. Majhi’s selection was confirmed at the BJP legislature party meeting, attended by Union Ministers Rajnath Singh and Bhupender Yadav,Previously, the BJP had been an alliance partner with the BJD, forming the government in 2000 and 2004. This victory, however, allows the BJP to lead on its own.Mohan Charan Majhi secured his position by winning the Keonjhar seat with a margin of approximately 87,815 votes, defeating BJD’s Mina Majhi.In light of the swearing-in ceremony for the new Chief Minister and council of ministers, the Odisha government has announced a half-day holiday in Bhubaneswar on June 12. According to a notification from the revenue and disaster management department, all state government offices and courts within the jurisdiction of the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will close after 1pm.
