Meghalaya Withdraws Consent To CBI, Becomes 9th State To Do So

Meghalaya becomes the 9th state to withdraw from CBI which means the Central Investigation Bureau cannot investigate any case without the permission of the state government. Previously, Kerala, Maharashtra, Mizoram, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Punjab, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh had withdrawn their consent to CBI.

Meghalaya becomes the 9th state to do so. This decision comes after there were allegations of corruption against James P K Sangma, the brother of Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. He was accused of being involved in corruption in the implementation of the Soubhagya Scheme in the state.
