Koo Shuts Down: Founder Announces Closure on LinkedIn

Koo, the Indian social media platform once touted as a rival to X (formerly Twitter), is shutting down, according to founder Aprameya Radhakrishna in a LinkedIn post. Reports indicate that the closure follows unsuccessful attempts to negotiate a sale or merger with several companies, including DailyHunt.

“Koo was built with a lot of heart,” Radhakrishna expressed. “We identified a significant gap between the languages spoken worldwide and the dominance of English on most social platforms, particularly X/Twitter in India. With 80% of the global population speaking languages other than English, there was a clear need for a platform like Koo. We aimed to democratize expression and foster connections in local languages. While most global products are American-dominated, we believed that India deserved a place at the table.”

Despite its ambitious goals, Koo’s journey has come to an end, marking the closure of a platform that sought to bridge linguistic divides and provide a voice for millions of non-English speakers.
