Kejriwal Moves Supreme Court Over High Court’s Stay on Bail in Liquor Policy Case

Share the news

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has filed a petition with the Supreme Court, contesting the Delhi High Court’s decision to pause his bail in a corruption case related to the liquor policy. This pause will remain in effect until a petition by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is reviewed.

The ED had objected to the bail granted to Kejriwal just hours before his scheduled release from Tihar jail. On Friday, the High Court ruled that the trial court’s bail order would be suspended until the agency’s petition is heard.

Kejriwal’s legal team has requested an urgent hearing for tomorrow.

The Chief Minister was arrested by the ED on allegations of money laundering, with claims that he received funds from the liquor industry to influence the excise policy, which were then allegedly used to finance his Aam Aadmi Party’s election campaign in Goa. Kejriwal has been in custody since March 21, apart from a short interim bail granted by the Supreme Court before the general election.
