Kahaani(2012)
With the versatile actress Vidya Balan playing the role of Vidya Bagchi in the suspense thriller, the movie will keep you hooked to the screen until the very end because every moment a new twist unfolds. The story progresses as Vidya is looking out for her missing husband and she is pregnant. The movie is directed by the brilliant Sujoy Ghosh and is one of the best thrillers in Bollywood. The Great Indian Kitchen (2021)
A Malayalam movie where Nimisha Sajayan plays the lead character who tries to be a submissive wife to her husband played by Suraj Venjaramood. The story progresses as she copes up with patriarchal family and finally decides to leave the family after not being able to take it anymore. The movie received many accolades and is considered to be one of the best movies in recent times to portray patriarchy and makes it an important cinema to watch.
Sherni (2021)
A movie where the protagonist goes on to do a job that is conventionally not suited for women is what the movie ‘Sherni’ talks about. Vidya Balan, again plays a rather fantastic job where she plays a Forest officer. She goes onto deal with ‘sexism’ while she is on a wildlife mission. She maintains her integrity until the end and this makes a must watch when one is looking for movies that break the conventional role ideas for women.
