ECI Seeks Action Against IPS Officer for Misuse of Medical Leave

Share the news

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has directed Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena to take action against Ashish Singh, a 2004 batch IPS officer, for allegedly unjustifiably availing medical leave. Singh, who has been on medical leave since May 4, was instructed to undergo a detailed medical examination by a special board at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar by May 30. The board’s report declared Singh both physically and mentally fit, leading the ECI to suspect misrepresentation of facts by the officer. Consequently, the ECI has asked the state’s Chief Electoral Officer to forward the board’s report to the Chief Secretary for appropriate action. In contrast, the ECI has revoked the suspension of DS Kutey, a 1997 batch IPS officer, who had been charged with interfering in the conduct of elections. Kutey is to report to the Chief Secretary for further posting while any departmental proceedings will require the ECI’s concurrence.
