New Delhi : The Delhi government has decided to slash the VAT charged on diesel, thereby bringing the price of the fuel down in the national capital.

In the Cabinet meeting chaired by chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, it was decided to reduce the VAT on diesel from 30% to 16.75%. The reduction will bring down diesel prices in Delhi to Rs 73.64 from Rs 82, the chief minister said.

The fuel prices have been on the rise since the daily price revision resumed after a hiatus of 82 days on June 7.

While petrol prices have risen by Rs 9.17 a litre, diesel prices have gone up by Rs 12.55 a litre in the National Capital since the resumption of daily price revision.
