8 Ganjam Labourers Killed In Chhattisgarh Accident, Odisha CM Announces Ex-Gratia

Ganjam : Eight people were killed and another six injured after a bus transporting labourers from Ganjam to Surat in Gujarat, met with an accident, early morning today.

The bus which was reportedly carrying around 70 people collided with a truck at Cheri Khedi in Raipur, Chhattisgarh at about 3.30 am.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief at the tragic death of the seven people in the accident. He conveyed his deep sympathy to the bereaved families and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from CMRF to the next of the kin of the deceased.

The Chief Minister also announced free medical treatment to the injured and wished their speedy recovery. He has directed Rural Development, Labour & Employees’ State Insurance Minister Susanta Singh to immediately proceed to Raipur to extend necessary assistance to the victims of the accident.

Naveen also asked Odisha DGP to remain in touch with DG Chhattisgarh for coordination. Accordingly, DGP Abhay sent a police team under SDPO Padampur to Raipur to assist the local police authorities. Fifty-nine remaining labours are safe and under the care of Raipur administration.
