New Delhi : A day after the Union Cabinet gave its approval to allow private sector participation in space sector, ISRO chief K. Sivan in a press briefing on Thursday said that the newly-created Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) will usher in a plethora of private agencies transform Indian space sector.

”These reforms will put India in the league of very few countries with an efficient, promotional and authorization mechanism in private sector space activities,” Sivan said.

“With Prime Minister’s vision and guidance we will make all effort so that India transits into new space era wherein innovative startups and industries are enabled to play a significant role in the space sector,” the ISRO chief noted.

The head of the country’s premier space research organisation further said, “Department of Space will promote sector space activities to enable it to provide end to end space services, including building and launching of rockets and satellites as well as providing space-based services on a commercial basis.”

“Space sector, where India is among handful of countries with advanced space technology, can play significant role in boosting industrial base of India. The government has decided to implement reformed measures to leverage ISRO’s achievement by opening space sector for private enterprises,” said Sivan.

He further added, “As part of longer socio-economic reform, space reforms will improve access to space-based services for India’s development. Far-reaching reforms will put India in the league of few countries with efficient promotional and authorisation mechanism for private sector space activities.”

Adding to his statement he said, “We believe that in space industry private can play bigger role than just supplying parts and components. Department of Space will promote private sector space activities to enable and provide end to end space services including building and launching of rockets and satellites as well as providing space based services on commercial basis.”
