The Odisha government has transferred IPS officer Ashish Kumar Singh, a 2004 batch officer, and appointed him as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Department. Prior to this, Singh was serving as Inspector General of Police (IGP) for the Chief Minister’s security.

According to a notification from the Home Department, “Ashish Kumar Singh, IGP (CM Security), is transferred and posted as OSD, Home Department with immediate effect.” Singh had been on leave from May 4 to June 2 and resumed duty on June 3.

On June 27, the Home Department inquired about Singh’s whereabouts. The following day, Odisha DGP Arun Kumar Sarangi confirmed that Singh had rejoined the special intelligence wing on June 3.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) had previously instructed Singh to undergo a health check-up at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar following allegations from the BJP that Singh was favoring the BJD in elections while on sick leave. A six-member board at AIIMS found Singh to be mentally and physically fit. Subsequently, the ECI requested the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha to forward the AIIMS report to the Chief Secretary for appropriate action against Singh.
