In a poignant and emotional ceremony on Friday, Captain Anshuman Singh was posthumously awarded the Kirti Chakra, India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award. The honor was presented by President Droupadi Murmu and accepted by his wife, Smriti Singh. Reflecting on her husband’s words, a heartbroken yet proud Smriti recalled, “I would die with a brass on my chest. I would not die an ordinary death.”

Smriti, standing alongside her mother-in-law, Manju Singh, wore a white saree symbolizing both grief and resilience as she accepted the Kirti Chakra from President Murmu. The solemn occasion was a tribute to Capt. Anshuman Singh’s bravery and sacrifice. Smriti’s face, marked with sorrow, was a poignant reminder of the personal loss endured by the families of our nation’s heroes. Yet, her presence also radiated strength and pride, honoring her husband’s legacy.

In a heartfelt video shared by the Ministry of Defence spokesperson on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, Smriti shared cherished memories of Capt. Anshuman Singh. She spoke of their deep bond, recounting how they became soulmates. Her words, filled with love and reverence, painted a vivid picture of a dedicated officer and a loving husband whose memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew him.
