Odisha Lightning Strikes Claim Five Lives, Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging

Tragic incidents of lightning strikes claimed the lives of five individuals in Bargarh and Bolangir districts of Odisha on Wednesday. The unfortunate events occurred in Duanadihi village of Bargarh, where three people lost their lives, and in Chaulbanji village of Bolangir, where two fatalities were reported.

In response to these incidents, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each deceased individual, as stated in an official release.

The state also experienced heavy rainfall on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas. According to officials, Nayagarh recorded the highest rainfall at 110 mm, followed by Paralakhemundi with 69.8 mm, Nabarangpur with 23 mm, and Bhubaneswar with 21.3 mm.

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have urged residents to take necessary precautions during severe weather conditions.
