After enduring extreme heatwave conditions, Odisha is finally experiencing the much-anticipated monsoon rains, bringing much-needed relief to its residents. The Regional Meteorological Department in Bhubaneswar has issued a ‘yellow warning’ for rainfall in several districts, signaling the onset of the rainy season.

Nine districts, including Khordha, Nayagarh, Boudh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Rayagada, Jharsuguda, and Sundergarh, are under the yellow alert. This rainfall is a welcome change for farmers who have been eagerly waiting to begin their Kharif crop cultivation.

The weather department predicts rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning over the next two days, with a significant increase in rainfall expected from January 26. Despite this positive turn, Odisha has received 39 percent less rainfall than normal between June 1 and June 22, with severe deficits in five districts and below-average rainfall in 17 districts. However, eight districts have reported normal rainfall levels during this period.
