Mohan Charan Majhi to Become Odisha’s New Chief Minister

Mohan Charan Majhi has been elected as the leader of the BJP legislature party and will assume office as Odisha’s new chief minister. The swearing-in ceremony, scheduled for June 12, will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Majhi will be the first Chief Minister from the BJP in Odisha since the state was formed.Prabhati Parida and KV Sing Deo have been designated as deputy chief ministers. The BJP’s victory in the recent assembly elections, securing 74 out of 147 seats, ended Naveen Patnaik’s 24- year tenure.

Mohan Charan Majhi, a 53-year-old tribal community leader, has represented the Keonjhar constituency since 2000. Known for his dedication to public service and strong organizational abilities, Majhi is a four-time MLA. Prior to his legislative career, he served as a Sarapancha from 1997 to 2000 and was a member of the Stan Committee of S.C. & S.T. under the ORV Act. From 2005 to 2009, Majhi served as the government Deputy Chief Whip during the BJD-BJP coalition government.
