Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 7: Final Polling Concludes with Over 60% Turnout Amid Violence in West Bengal.

The extensive process to elect the 18th Lok Sabha concluded on Saturday with the final phase of elections registering an approximate voter turnout of over 60%. However, the polling was marred by clashes between TMC and BJP supporters in the Sandeshkhali region and other parts of West Bengal.The seventh phase saw voters from seven states and the Union Territory of Chandigarh casting their ballots across 57 constituencies. Notably, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh was one of the key constituencies, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking a third consecutive term.The polling on Saturday took place amid a severe heatwave affecting all 13 seats in Punjab and four in Himachal Pradesh. Other constituencies included 13 in Uttar Pradesh, nine in West Bengal, eight in Bihar, six in Odisha, three in Jharkhand, and Chandigarh. Concurrently, the remaining 42 assembly constituencies in Odisha and six assembly bypolls in Himachal Pradesh were also conducted.As the nation awaits the results, all eyes are on June 4 when the votes will be counted. Additionally, Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim will begin counting for their assembly polls on June 2.The seventh phase of polling was significant not just for its voter turnout but also for the incidents of violence that erupted in parts of West Bengal, highlighting the intense political rivalry in the region.
