Phulbani: A day after two Maoists were gunned down by SOG and DVF personnel in Kandhamal, DG Police Abhay toured the district to take stock of security. Abhay was accompanied by Director Intelligence RK Sharma, IG Operations Amitabh Thakur, DIG Satyabrata Bhoi and DIG SIW, Aniruddh Singh.
The senior officials held a meeting at district police headquarters in Phulbani and reviewed the strategy to counter Maosist. SP Vineet Agarwal briefed the senior officials on the preparedness and strategy of district police to combat the left wing extremists.
Two LWE operatives, a man and a woman were killed during an exchange of fire between the police and Maoists in Sirla forest under Tumudibandha police limits on Wednesday night.
The DGP asked the Maoists to surrender with the police and join the mainstream. Last year 13 Maoists had surrendered while this year, till July, 19 have given up arms. The DGP expressed hope that the number will increase by the end of the 2020.
