Mumbai/Bhubaneswar: MS Dhoni, Chhichhore and Kai Po Che fame actor, Sushant Singh Rajput’s death by suicide sent shock waves through Bollywood and once again brought to the fore issues related to mental health care.

Posts about having family and friends around to tackle the issue have been doing the rounds on social media since then.

However, Odisha-born IPS officer Basant Rath in a Twitter post on Thursday said relatives or friends can’t replace professional therapists.

“When I was going through depression and contemplating suicide in 1994, I reached out to a psychiatrist. I didn’t rely on my girlfriends or boyfriends or family members to help me survive those two years,” he wrote.
