Until a few decades ago, India could see a male domination – a society which couldn’t realize the importance of women thereby leading to rise in female illiteracy. But, a lot has changed and the current situation offers a valuable and deserving position in the society.

The status of women in India has been subject to many great changes over the past few millennia. From the times when women used to hold equal status as that of men, through their low points in the medieval period to the promotion of equal rights by many reformers.

In modern India, women have held high positions in Indian politics as well, such as the respectable positions of the President, the Prime Minister, Speaker of the Lok Sabha and the leader of opposition. Since a few decades, modern India could see the abilities and capabilities of women, and their high goals in each of their respective lives. It can see the strong desires that women hold in achieving their rights. Today, they can make their own decisions and are ready to face the challenges irrespective of any custom, culture, caste, religion, family or the government, the institutions which had earlier imprisoned them in the cages of violence and fear.

The 21st century Indian women have started reacting to the injustice they faced. They have left no stones unturned for their protection and freedom. In the forthcoming years, India will see an emergence of a aspiring womenfolk, who are ever ready to challenge the male bastion.
