Bhubaneswar : As the Covid-19 pandemic has severely affected the air and rail transport, the state tourism department has decided to attract domestic tourists to the state via road.
The tourism department is all set to launch a campaign under the banner of ‘road trip to and though Odisha’ if the Covid situation improves by October which will be a great initiative for the domestic tourists.
“We will target some major cities of our bordering states—West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh—and invite tourists to Odisha by roads from Kolkata, Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Bilaspur, Raipur and Visakhapatnam. Tourism department will float attractive packages of the proposed road trips,” state tourism secretary Vishal Dev said.
“Assuming that the Covid situation improves in the next few weeks, the flights and trains to Odisha may resume. But tourists may hesitate to take air and rail travels anytime soon. So we conceptualized the road trip to capture the domestic tourist market of our neighbouring states,” Dev said, adding “The plan is to revive the tourism industry that has been adversely affected by the pandemic.”
