The Aam Aadmi Party National Convenor announced Bhagwant Mann as the Chief Minister candidate for the upcoming assembly elections in Punjab.
The selection was done on the basis of the votes received on the phone line made public by the party. But who is Bhagwant Mann?
Here’s what we know so far:
- Bhagwant Mann was a poet and comedian before joining politics in 2011. He was known figure around Punjab for his anti-establishment poems and political satires.
- He started his political career in 2011 through Manpreet Singh Badal’s Peoples Party of Punjab. However, he lost in the Assembly polls.
- In 2014, Mann joined Aam Aadmi Party and was elected to Lok Sabha from the Sangrur constituency.
- He lost in the 2017 state polls but retained his seat in 2019 general elections.
- In a rally in 2019, he had pledged in front of the people in Punjab that he would never touch alcohol again and devote his life to serve the people of Punjab.
- Mann was a part of Jugnu Kehnda hai and Jugnu Mast Mast that streamed on a Punjabi Channel. He also was a part of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge.
