A fire had broken out in the largest power plant of Europe after Russian military fired inside the building complex in Zaporizhzhia, Ukraine. The fire was extinguished soon after.
The power plant is located at a distance of about 550 km from the capital city of Kyiv. This attack was done by the Russian military a week after President Vladimir Putin announced a military operation in Ukraine. The power plant is responsible for about 40 percent of the country’s nuclear power.
Ukrainian foreign minister Dmytro Kuleba requested Russian troops to stop attacking the power plant in order to prevent a nuclear catastrophe.
The UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency has already urged Russia to “cease all actions” at Ukraine’s nuclear facilities, including the site of the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
