Bhubaneswar : The Vigilance department on Tuesday raided suspended former Jaleswar police station IIC Sanatan Sahu’s government quarter and houses.
Simultaneous raids are being conducted at seven places including his flat in Sailashree Vihar area of Bhubaneswar, two places in Cuttack and his father-in-law’s house at Narasighpur on charges of amassing disproportionate assets, said a vigilance officer.
The police officer was suspended by Odisha DGP Abhay on August 15 over his alleged involvement with peddlers.
He was placed under suspension after a purported audio clip of a telephonic conversation went viral on social media in which a police officer, reported to be Dhaneshwar Sahu, is heard threatening the brother of a brown sugar peddler and demanding money with help of a lawyer.
It is alleged that Sahu threatened brother of a drug peddler and demanded money for release of a seized vehicle.
Leading Odia news channel News7 was first to air the viral audio clip following which police had launched an investigation into the matter.
