The Biju Janata Dal has won an easy victory in the recent state Urban polls. The party led by Chief Minister Naveen Pattnaik has performed extremely well with the mayor candidates winning in all three Municipal Corporations. Sulochana Das won with a margin of 61,000 votes in Bhubaneswar. She defeated Sunita Mundu who came a far second. Das will be the first woman to be elected as the mayor of the capital city.
Similarly, Sanghamitra Dalai also won in the Berhampur Municipal Corporation while defeating BJP’s Sabita Suar with a margin of 20,236 votes. She bagged a total of 79,719 votes.
The Cuttack Municipal Corporation was also clinched by the BJD with Subash Singh winning with a margin of 45,206 votes and defeating Congress’s Giribala Behera. Subhash Singh was a Rajya Sabha member from Odisha and was elected on March 24, 2020. The former spokesperson of BJD bagged total of a 1,13,562 votes.
The party won 48 out of 67 seats in Bhubaneswar, 38 out of 59 seats in Cuttack and 30 out of 42 seats in Berhampur.
The Chief Minister met all the winning candidates at his residence and congratulated them while lauding hem for their efforts.
