Supreme Court Grants Interim Bail to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal in ED Case

On July 12, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to AAP chief and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case related to the Delhi excise policy. Kejriwal has been incarcerated for 90 days. The bench, led by Justice Sanjiv Khanna, stated, “We direct Kejriwal will be released on interim bail… we are conscious he is an elected leader.”

The Supreme Court has referred Kejriwal’s petition challenging his arrest by the ED to a larger bench, emphasizing that the interim bail is subject to the outcome of this plea. The court also clarified that it is Kejriwal’s decision to step down as Chief Minister, and they cannot order him to do so.

However, despite the interim bail, Kejriwal will remain in prison due to his arrest by the CBI in another case related to the excise policy. He has moved the Delhi High Court seeking bail in the CBI case, which is scheduled to be heard on July 17.
