The full moon day in the Odia month of Jyestha is known to be the birthday of Lord Jagannath and the occasion of Snana Purnima where the lJagannath, Balabhadra and Subhadra and Sudarshan sit on the Snana Mandap and give ‘darshan’ to their devotees outside the Garbha Griha.
This ritual begins with the Dhadi Pahandi in the chronological order of Sudarshana, Balabhadra, Subhadra and Jagannath. In this ritual the deities are brought out from the Ratna Singhasana to the Snana Bedi.
The devotees will be able to witness this ritual after a wait of two long years as the administration had restricted visitors owing to the pandemic.
The ‘Chaturdha Murti’ are seated in the Snana Mandap as the follow up rituals begin. The deities will then be dressed up in ‘Gajanana Besa’ later in the day.
