The Supreme Court today ordered that all sedition cases will be put on a pause until the Central Government re examines the provisions of the law under Section-124 of the Indian Penal Code.
On the pending sedition cases, the CJI NV Ramana-led Bench said: “Those already booked under Section 124A IPC and are in jail could approach competent courts for appropriate relief and bail.”
“Is it still Necessary to continue Sedition Law, which was used by British to suppress our Freedom Movement, even after 75 years of Independence?” CJI Ramana questioned while issuing notice on petitions.
