Registration Mandatory For Pet Shops In Odisha

Bhubaneswar : The state government has directed all the pet shops, dog breeding facilities and veterinary centres to mandatorily register with the State Animal Welfare Board.

An official notification was issued by the Directorate of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services on Thursday in this regard.

“As per the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Dog Breeding and Marketing) Rules 2017 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Pet Shop) Rules 2018, no one can operate a pet shop or carry on the business of breeding and trade pet animals without being certified under the State Animal Welfare Board”, read the notification.

Strict action will be taken as per the concerned law, if any pet shop, breeding, and veterinary centres were found flouting the norms, the letter further read.

The pet shop owners, breeding, and veterinary facilities can visit the concerned District Chief Veterinary Officer (CDVO) for registration purposes.
