Bhubaneswar : Plasma therapy will begin soon at IGH in Rourkela, informed Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy today.
A decision in this regards was taken during the meeting of Council of Ministers held today. Odisha is the third state besides Delhi and Maharastra to start this procedure.
While SCB Medical College is the nodal agency for plasma therapy, the SUM Hospital, KIIMS Hospital both in Bhubaneswar and Aswini Hospital, Cuttack are also providing the treatment. Besides the state government has also started the treatment in Ganjam.
Plasma therapy is an experimental procedure where plasma from the blood of a recovered Covid-19 patient is transfused to a critically ill coronavirus patient. The blood of a person who has recovered from Covid-19 develops antibodies. When injected into the blood of another patient, these antibodies are supposed to help that person fight the infection.
