Koraput: Padma Shri awardee Kamala Pujari has been admitted to Jeypore hospital in Koraput district on Friday night after her condition deteriorated due to high blood pressure.
According to sources, Kamala complained of uneasiness last night at around 12 AM following which she was admitted to the hospital. Reportedly, she is undergoing treatment at a special ward in the hospital and her health condition is stated to be stable now.
Kamala, who hails from the tribal-dominated Koraput district, was conferred with the Padma Shri for her contribution to the field of agriculture.
Kamala received the honour for preserving hundreds of local varieties of paddy and promoting organic farming. She is also known for having persuaded villagers in her area to shun chemical fertilisers and adopt organic farming for a better harvest and soil fertility.
She has also received ‘Equator Initiative Award’ in South Africa in 2002.
