As the Rajdhani (capital city) of Odisha turns 74, the city gears up to celebrate with all government buildings shining bright to commemorate the history of the city. It was on April 13, 1948 that India’s first Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of this now turned smart city.
The Temple City with over 700 temples in it’s lap was not the first capital. It replaced Cuttack as the capital city in the year 1949. The present day city stands on the ruins of Sishupalagada that was once the capital of the Kalinga empire.
The city has been sitting on a large part of history while being located in the middle of the golden triangle, that is Puri and Cuttack. While the city became smart just few years ago, it has been always been culturally rich.
