On Thursday, Odisha’s new Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, took office at Lok Seva Bhawan in Bhubaneswar, marking the occasion with traditional headgear and beginning his duties in his third-floor office. Majhi announced a series of initiatives aimed at promoting and preserving Odia culture and language.
One of his key announcements was that all government work would now be conducted in Odia, with measures to ensure its widespread use. Emphasizing the importance of cultural development alongside economic progress, he committed to amending laws if necessary to support this goal.
Majhi revealed plans to establish a Paika Rebellion Academy in Barunei and to develop Swaraj. He also promised to reorganize the Odia Language Institute and prioritize the appointment of Odia teachers in high schools throughout the state. Additionally, he outlined plans to revamp the state’s literature, music, drama, and fine arts academies to enhance their efficiency.
Further initiatives include the formation of a Language Commission, the creation of a Translation Academy, and the establishment of Asmita Bhavan to promote Odia literature and identity. Majhi also announced the activation of the Odissi Research Centre to encourage high-quality research on the Odia language and culture and the expansion of the library movement to improve reading habits.
Emphasizing the use of modern, user-friendly technologies to support language development, Majhi invited public feedback on further steps to strengthen Odia’s identity. This comprehensive approach demonstrates his government’s dedication to enhancing Odisha’s language, culture, and heritage while driving the state’s overall development.
