The Odisha government has reaffirmed its unwavering support for Indian hockey, delivering a significant boost to the sport. This important collaboration was formalized during a high-level meeting attended by Hockey India President Dr. Dilip Tirkey and Hockey India Secretary General Shri Bhola Nath Singh. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha, Shri Mohan Charan Majhi, the Hon’ble Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services, Shri Suryabanshi Suraj, Chief Secretary & Chief Development Commissioner, Shri Pradeep Kumar Jena, IAS, and Commissioner-Cum-Secretary, Shri R. Vineel Krishna, IAS, were also present.
The discussions emphasized Odisha’s ongoing commitment to promoting hockey throughout India, with a proposal to extend their sponsorship until 2036. This year is particularly meaningful for Odisha as it marks the 100th anniversary of its establishment as an independent state in 1936, a milestone that evokes great pride and joy among its citizens.
Reflecting on the meeting and the partnership, Dr. Dilip Tirkey, President of Hockey India, stated, “We had a productive discussion with Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi and Hon’ble Minister of State for Sports & Youth Services Shri Suryabanshi Suraj. We focused on advancing sports and devising strategies to elevate hockey to new heights.”
He added, “We are immensely grateful to the Government of Odisha for their steadfast support and commitment to Indian hockey. This partnership has been crucial in elevating the sport across the nation.”
