Odisha CM Oath Ceremony: PM Modi to Attend as Mohan Charan Majhi Takes Oath

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the swearing-in ceremony of Odisha’s new Chief Minister, Mohan Charan Majhi, on Wednesday. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has concluded the 24-year governance of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) led by Naveen Patnaik.Majhi, a seasoned four-time MLA and a significant tribal leader, will assume office following the appointment of senior state leaders Dharmendra Pradhan and Jual Oram to the Union government. Alongside Majhi, KV Singh Deo and Pravati Parida have been designated as Deputy Chief Ministers.Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal announced, “PM Modi will arrive on June 12th by 2:30 pm for the oath-taking ceremony, scheduled for 5:00 pm.”Majhi started his political journey as a Sarpanch from 1997 to 2000 and first entered the state assembly in 2000 representing Keonjhar with the BJD-BJP alliance, securing re-election in 2004. From 2005 to 2009, he served as the government deputy chief whip in the BJD-BJP coalition. He was re-elected in 2019 and recently retained his seat by defeating BJD’s Mina Majhi by 11,577 votes. In the previous assembly, he served as the opposition chief whip. Majhi will be the first Chief Minister from the tribal-dominated Keonjhar district, which has a notable 23% tribal population.Upon being elected as CM, Majhi expressed his intention to visit Puri to offer thanks to Lord Jagannath after the swearing-in ceremony.KV Singh Deo, named Deputy CM, is a six-time MLA from Patnagarh in Balangir District and belongs to Patnagarh’s royal family. Despite losing in 2019, he secured victory in 2024. Deo has previously served as a minister in the BJD-BJP coalition government, and his grandfather, Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo, was a former Chief Minister of Odisha. His wife, Sangeeta Singh Deo, is currently the MP from Balangir. Pravati Parida, also appointed as Deputy CM, is a first-time MLA from Nimapada in Puri District and formerly served as the president of the party’s women’s wing in Odisha.
