Bhubaneswar : Odisha-born Indian Air Force Wing Commander Nikhil Rath is among the four people selected for ISRO’s first-ever manned mission to space. The mission known as “Gaganayaan” will take place in 2022.
Nikhil, a native of Balangir, will undertake training in Russia.
The astronauts will reportedly fly up to 300 to 400 kilometres altitude into space. It will be a seven-day affair and Rs 10,000 crore will be spent on it.
If the mission is successful, India will be the fourth nation to send astronauts to space after United States, Russia and China.
