The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activities across various parts of Odisha over the next 48 hours. According to IMD reports, a cyclonic circulation previously over east Jharkhand has now shifted to Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and its vicinity. Additionally, the trough extending from west Assam to north Odisha has weakened significantly.
IMD forecasts surface winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kmph along and off the North Odisha coast within the next 24 hours, attributing this to a steep pressure gradient in the region. A yellow alert has been issued in anticipation of these weather conditions, urging residents and authorities to stay vigilant and take necessary precautions.
