IMD Forecasts Heatwave and Rainfall in Designated Areas; Monsoon Expected to Reach Kerala by May 31.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a forecast indicating the onset of a new heatwave in Northwest India starting May 16, followed by the eastern region from May 18. Additionally, heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds are anticipated over southern Peninsular India until May 20. According to the latest bulletin from the IMD, the Southwest Monsoon is projected to advance into the South Andaman Sea, specific regions of the Southeast Bay of Bengal, and the Nicobar Islands by May 19, 2024.

Anticipated Monsoon Outlook:

This year, indications suggest that the southwest monsoon will make its onset over Kerala around May 31, 2024, with a margin of error of approximately ± 4 days. Furthermore, it’s anticipated that prior to this, the monsoon is highly probable to advance into the South Andaman Sea, as well as parts of Southeast Bay of Bengal and Nicobar Islands, likely occurring around May 19, 2024.
