Bhubaneswar : Hirakud dam will be releasing its flood waters at around 10.00 AM tomorrow for the first time this season, informed District Emergency Officer, Subhasmita Mishra here today.
Mishra said that as on today the water level in Hirakud dam is 616 ft.
“Miking by Hirakud Dam division and SMC is underway in all low lying areas,” she further informed and added that alert has been issued in these areas.
The District Emergency Officer told that pre-planning and preparations have been made to tackle the situation in the event of a flood.
“Temporary flood centres have been identified wherein officers, ASHA and Anganwadi workers are tagged, for evacuation and relief measures in the event of an emergent situation,” Mishra said.
Mainly nine districts along river Mahanadi having been put on alert, she added.
Water level in Hirakud dam which has a water holding capacity of 630 ft has been constantly rising following rains in the upper catchment of river Mahanadi.
Currently, 85,000 cusecs water is entering into Hirakud dam while 14,000 cusecs is being released.
