In anticipation of this year’s Rath Yatra in Puri, King Dibyasingha Deb and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi convened for a crucial meeting to finalize arrangements for the annual festival of the Trinity. Scheduled for July 7, the Rath Yatra coincides with the auspicious Netra Utsav and Nabajaubana celebrations of the deities, marking a significant event after 53 years.
During the meeting, discussions centered around the meticulous planning and timely execution of rituals outlined in the 1971 schedule. Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan highlighted that the Gajapati Maharaj addressed the schedule, emphasizing the importance of adhering to tradition.
Approved by the Chhattisha Nijog and Srimandir managing committee, the Rath Yatra will commence with the pulling of chariots at 5 pm on July 7, culminating in their arrival at Gundicha temple the following day. On July 9, the three deities will be ceremoniously moved to the ‘Adapa Mandap’ within Gundicha temple.
With an expected influx of devotees, ranging from five to eight lakh pilgrims, the district administration is preparing for heightened security measures. The anticipated visit of President Droupadi Murmu and Union ministers further underscores the significance of this year’s festivities.
In anticipation of managing law and order during the Rath Yatra to Niladri Bije period, the state government has appointed 90 officers as executive magistrates in Puri. Discussions also addressed concerns raised by members of Srimandir’s Puja Panda Nijog and Suara Mahasuara Nijog, focusing on the orderly conduct of rituals and safe entry of devotees into the temple.
The meeting also addressed the resumption of providing ‘Kanika Khechudi Bhoga’ to devotees at the temple gates, a practice paused earlier this year, and the enhancement of health insurance coverage for Suara sevayats from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
Narayan Mahasuara, a senior servitor, expressed gratitude for the chief minister’s attentive consideration of their requests and extended an invitation for him to partake in the Adapa Mandap Bhoga at Gundicha temple.
This year’s Rath Yatra promises to be a momentous occasion, steeped in cultural significance and spiritual fervor, as preparations continue to ensure a memorable and auspicious celebration for all participants.
